Miner v Wild – An Outback Trek in Support of Youth Mental Health

On August 27th, AMPS Founder/Director Brendan Parker will trek through the rugged Australian bush for a one-of-a-kind fundraising mission in support of youth mental health.

This trek will help raise vital funds for Youth Focus and help support them in improving the mental health and well-being of young Western Australians.

“It is an opportunity for the mining industry to invest in our greatest asset, the young people of Western Australia”. – Heiko Plange-Korndoerfer (Youth Focus Chief Development Officer)

Brendan will be joined by members from LiveMine, idoba, Bellevue Gold, MLG OZ and Entech, putting their skills to the test, and making a difference in young lives.

The mission is to brave a rigorous 4-day trek through the Kimberly region, armed with nothing but a fishing rod, a swag and limited supplies.

Trek Itinerary:

  • Day 1 – Arrive in Kununurra and drive on old station tracks to the Old Speewah homestead.
  • Day 2 – Helicopter lift over the Endaba Gorge in the Durack Range and trek to the camping spot. Harvest, hunt or catch food for dinner.
  • Day 3 – Navigate through Endaba Gorge onto the Chamberlain River. Caution is required on the Chamberlian as 5-6m saltwater Crocs inhabit these waters. Chamberlain River is remote, no more than a dozen people each year come into this part of the world.
  • Day 4 – Navigate cross country, up onto and over a rugged section of the Durack Range to arrive at Big Hole, a 35-metre waterfall.
  • Day 5 – Helicopter back to the Old Speewah camp and return to Kununurra.

Brendan’s goal is to raise $15,000 to support Youth Focus’s vital services.

Help the team and Youth Focus make a real and lasting difference in the lives of young people dealing with mental health issues. Every donation (no matter how big or small) will go a long way to help them reach their goal. Your generosity makes a huge impact. Thank you.
